I am a native of Harrogate and a Chartered Forester with more than 25 years of forestry and woodland creation experience.
After managing forests and native woodlands in iconic Scottish locations like Glen Affric and across the Highlands and West Coast of Scotland, I remained within the Forestry Commission to return to Yorkshire in 2005 as woodland officer. Working with landowners across the county, I provided guidance, advice and support to secure grant funding and help them navigate the complexities of forestry and environmental regulations.
A desire to return to operational forestry led me into the private sector in 2018 as a senior forest manager with Tilhill where I manage a range of woodlands from native broadleaved to productive conifer.
Founded in 1948, Tilhill is the UK’s leading forest management company. It has evolved to incorporate tree nurseries, forest management, landscaping, harvesting and timber processing.
We offer specialist advice on planting, protection and maintenance of young trees, planting design and species choice, development of short rotation forest and coppice, ecological surveys and reports, digital mapping, preparation of plans and production forecasts, grant aid applications, and forest certifications.
Tilhill has the skills, experience, knowledge, and resources to bring woodland creation projects to life, delivering biodiversity enhancement, improving water quality and reducing flood risk, increasing carbon sequestration, creating resilient habitats and providing a sense of place for people to live.
We are happy and comfortable working with small scale projects from 1ha to large scale of 100ha-plus.
I know the Aire catchment and its diverse ecology well, and use my knowledge of regulations and grant funding opportunities to ensure that the aims, objectives and wishes of landowners are brought to fruition.
